SOCIAL MEDIA GRAPHICS

Visual storytelling when the world is watching.

Being smart
with graphics
on social media

As the visual content lead for the social media team, one of my favorite things to do every day was think of interesting ways to visually showcase Secretary Clinton's words, policies, and values for people to digest and share on the internet. Since the platforms I managed were so visual, it was only natural that I become the point person to work with our photographers and designers on all visual content across every campaign social platform.

We never just made graphics for the sake of doing them, though. We were always thoughtful about making sure we used the best possible format for a given message. The use cases for graphics on social media largely consisted of the following:

  • Quotes
  • Values statements
  • Policy
  • Contrast
  • Celebratory
  • Artifacts

Quotes

Key messages

During major moments, we broke out Secretary Clinton's remarks into a variety of formats. We always tried to supplement videos, photos and longer form content pieces with quote graphics from important or well-received lines. They always performed very well, especially when it came to sharing, getting our campaign message in front of new audiences.

Reacting to
current events

When breaking news happened was developing, we selected key lines from the official campaign statement to amplify as bold, powerful graphics that remained focused on the issue, not our campaign or candidate.

Throwback quotes

Pairing an old photo with her quote allowed us to tell the story of Secretary Clinton's remarkable life.

We cannot back down from breaking the barriers that keep us from living up to our full potential. #TBT
